Measure your typing speed and accuracy

This typing test measures how fast and how accurately you type real sentences. Choose a 30-second, one-minute or two-minute run, or type until the passage ends, then start typing in the box below the text. The timer starts on your first keystroke, so there is no countdown to race. Correct characters turn green, mistakes turn red, and the current position is underlined, so you always know where you are. Live counters show the remaining time, your current words per minute, accuracy and the number of mistakes.

Speed is reported in words per minute (WPM) using the standard definition of five characters per word. Net WPM counts only correct characters, which rewards accuracy; raw WPM counts everything you typed and shows your pure finger speed. Accuracy is calculated from every keystroke, so a typo you fix still lowers it. That mirrors how mistakes slow you down in real work. Pasting is disabled during the test to keep results honest.

Find the keys that slow you down

Most typing tests stop at a single number. This one also records which key you were supposed to press every time you made a mistake. After the test, the per-key table lists your most-missed keys with the number of errors, how many times the key appeared, your error rate and the key you most often pressed instead. Patterns jump out quickly: perhaps you mix up e and r, drop the shift key, or hit the space bar too early. Focus your practice on the top few keys and run the test again to see the difference.

Want to practice something specific? Switch the text to "My own text" and paste a paragraph from your work, a list of programming keywords, or text in another language. That makes the test useful for learning a new keyboard layout or getting comfortable with accented letters.

Private practice

The test runs completely in your browser. Your keystrokes and custom text are never sent anywhere, and nothing is stored after you leave the page.

How to use

Frequently asked questions

How is WPM calculated?
One word is counted as five characters, including spaces. Net WPM uses only correctly typed characters divided by the elapsed minutes; raw WPM counts every character you typed, right or wrong.
Why is my accuracy lower than expected if I fixed my mistakes?
Accuracy is based on every keystroke. A wrong key still counts as a mistake even if you delete it and type the right one, because it cost you time. Uncorrected errors are shown separately.
What does the per-key error table show?
For each key you were supposed to press, it lists how many times you got it wrong, how often it appeared, your error rate and the key you most often hit instead. It helps you find weak fingers and common swaps.
Can I practice in another language?
Yes. Choose "My own text" and paste any text, for example in German, Polish or Ukrainian, to practice that layout and vocabulary.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is typical for casual typists, 60–80 WPM is fast for office work, and competitive typists exceed 100 WPM. Accuracy above 95% matters more than raw speed.
