Flip text upside down with Unicode

Upside-down text, sometimes called flip text, is a fun way to stand out in a username, a profile bio, a gaming chat or a social media comment. Plain text has no rotate option, so this generator swaps every letter for a Unicode character that already looks like the rotated version: a becomes ɐ, e becomes ǝ, h becomes ɥ, and pairs such as b and q or d and p simply trade places. Capital letters, digits and common punctuation are covered as well, including ¿ and ¡ for question and exclamation marks.

By default the order of the characters is reversed too. That is what makes the text readable when someone turns their phone around: the last letter comes first, flipped, exactly as it would appear if you rotated a printed line by 180 degrees. If you only want the flipped letters without reversing, untick the reverse option. Emoji and other characters without an upside-down form are kept as they are, and multi-part emoji stay intact.

Mirror text and flipping back

Mirror mode produces backwards text that looks as if it was reflected horizontally. It uses mirrored lookalikes such as ɒ for a, ɘ for e, Я for R and Ƨ for S, and reverses the line. It is a nod to Leonardo da Vinci's mirror writing and to the reversed AMBULANCE lettering you see on emergency vehicles.

Received a message in upside-down letters? Paste it into the box and choose "Flip back to normal". The tool maps the special characters back to their usual letters and restores the order, so you can read it without tilting your head. The "Use result as input" button makes it easy to switch back and forth.

Where it works

The result is regular Unicode text, not an image, so it works in Instagram and TikTok bios, Discord, WhatsApp, Facebook, X, email subjects and most games. Screen readers may read the substituted characters by their own names, so avoid it for important information. Everything runs locally in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How does upside-down text work?
There is no "rotate" setting in plain text. The tool replaces each letter with a Unicode character that looks like it rotated 180°, such as ɐ for a and ǝ for e, then reverses the order so the line reads correctly when turned over.
Will it work on Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp?
Yes, in most cases. The output is ordinary Unicode text, so it can be pasted anywhere that accepts text. A few rare symbols may look different depending on the font of the device.
Can I turn upside-down text back to normal?
Yes. Paste it in and choose "Flip back to normal". The tool maps the rotated characters back to regular letters and restores the original order.
What is mirror text?
Mirror text uses lookalike characters such as ɒ, ɘ and Я to imitate letters reflected horizontally, and reverses the order, like writing seen in a mirror.
